If you haven’t heard of Tin Roof Furniture, then frankly, you have been under a rock. That is okay though because Nosey Parker is here to bring you into the fold. Nosey Parker loves extraordinary shopping experiences, not only from the atmostphere of a store but just having fun too. This is the motto at Tin Roof. In fact, the very first billboard I noticed in Spokane was a fabulous couch. That’s all it was … a fabulous couch. Being new in town, I wanted to go to a store that had THAT fabulous couch. I didn’t need a couch but I knew if the store had a billboard like that, then ALL my other needs would be met. Tin Roof has been around a long time and is in the industrial area of Sprague just before Downtown. With functional and affordable home furnishings, friendly, knowledgable and helpful sales associates – Tin Roof has earned ALL of their accolades. It IS a relaxing environment, yet upscale boutique setting.
MUST ATTEND EVENT: HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE – TUES, NOV. 3 - Sip hot chocolate or a little bubbly and nibble on fresh baked cookies while you enjoy our holiday display and thousands of great holiday decorating ideas. We’ll have decorating classes all week long as well as holiday gift ideas, select samples on sale and all dining on sale! Enjoy 30% off any single holiday decor item. We’ve brought in themed trees, decor, quilts and more. Santa is visiting Monday night to set up so be sure to swing by on Tuesday and check out all the festivities!
My fabulous finds at Tin Roof:
I had a wine barrel I bought at a fundraiser. My downstairs did not have a bar like my previous house, so I wanted to do something with my barstools too. Heading to Tin Roof, I knew exactly what I was going to do when I walked in the door. All along the staircase were wrought iron clocks. Bought a huge one, put a glass on top, put that on top of the wine barrel and walla! Instant place to play games or have a glass of wine!
I had been sleeping on a queen size antique bed from France for years and really wanted a king with fabulous bedding. This is the beautiful black four poster I got for a FABULOUS price at Tin Roof.

And of course, the largest selection of denim in Spokane, with over 60 styles, 25 designers from Hudson to Joes to William Rast. All this combined with great customer service within a trendy atmosphere. No need to go to Seattle, Portland or LA – cues has it. We are in event season ladies! Gala’s, Christmas Parties, soiree’s, Fundraisers, children’s performances, the symphony … the list could go on forever. What is a girl to do when the budget for new clothing is in the tank? Most women head to the big box discount stores to see “the sales” or what I call the drastically reduced cookie cutter clothes that fall apart after a few wears and washes. The problem is that these stores lure you in with low prices, you buy because it was on sale and most of the time that is the only reason you bought. I can hear the disagreement now – Nosey Parker, you know that we can buy four dresses at a discount store vs one at a high end boutique. That maybe true, but if it sits in your closet with all the other “on sale” items, you have wasted your money. I believe in investing in core pieces, mix & match and letting your local expert boutique owner help you out. Not only do they consider your body type, event and budget – they will get to know what you like and make sure you are not wearing the same dress someone else is to an event.
A few Nosey Parker fav’s that are experts: Finders Keepers, lolo boutique, Bella Boutique, Swank, Just Because, Cues, Lake Shack Boutique, coco’s, Jigsaw, Boardwalk at Riverstone, Bella Jezza Sandpoint and Tangerine’s. One of the best discount stores that carries designer brands is The Reclothery. Consignment shopping is “so in” right now but Rebecca has been around for years on The South Hill, offering very gently used higher end clothing that can meet anyone’s budget. All of the fabulous boutiques also have sales and will barter with you where a national chain will not.
So why the headline “It’s Like Extortion!” – because seeing a sale tag or buy one get one free at a discount store is like seeing something inappropriate on tv – you don’t want to look but you do because it’s being flashed in your face. Promises are made but can’t be kept and usually it’s a marketing ploy to get your business. They think they have you. They suck you in and you end up with a closet full of nothing instead of a closet full of wonderful.

Have you been to the new Atticus store next to Boo Radley’s? It was 4 Seasons Coffee and the coffee shop/coffee & tea availability is still intact. However, the store is different. Who doesn’t know Atticus Finch, the fictional character in Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus is a central character in the novel. You will find mockingbirds all over the store. I loved it. Also, lots of fun stuff to pick up, like the ceramic coffee cup that looks like a disposable one – so green! The lid is rubber. I collect finches myself and found quite a few. In fact, on my desk burning right now is a Vintage Peony hand poured candle with different types of birds, a bag of Chocolate covered cranberries and a card that says “I wanted to do something, anything, but I didn’t know what to do. So I did this. This is my something. By Jason Watt.” My motto! The fresh ground Kahlua Coffee I made this morning was delightful as well. Check them out at:

Downtown Spokane Treasure Hunt, September 14th-18th 2009, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. As the saying goes, “when the going gets tough the tough get going.” This year that saying is truer than ever. In the age where every dollar counts, one group of Spokane business women are collaborating to create the first ever Shop Hop for the downtown. The idea was a previous success created by De Scott of Simply Northwest who started the Desperate Housewives shopping event in the Spokane Valley. The Shop Hop for the downtown will have a Treasure Hunt theme. The Treasure Hunt will take place the week of September 14th-18th. Treasure maps can be picked up at all of the following participating businesses: Simply Northwest, Tangerine, Finders Keepers, Finders Keepers 2, The Make-Up Studio, Lolo, and Left Bank Wine Bar. Treasure Hunters will find food, friends, fun, in-store specials, and receive a locally-made gift at each location. Once Treasure Hunters have visited all of the locations they can turn in their Treasure Map to the last store and they will be entered into a drawing for $300 worth of gift certificates to the participating locations.

Fifth Birthday at THE TIN ROOF this weekend and they are having a sale and in-store give aways! One of the most fab events of the year. Mark your calendars for the June 18th Tent Sale as well. The Tin Roof is not only Spokane’s #1 Furniture store (voted by the Inlander Poll, 2008 as well as Spokane CDA Living and NW Woman Magazine) but is an off-shoot of Acme TV, a locally owned third generation Spokane store. Stared in 1945, Acme TV offered Spokane the exciting new technology of Radio, and in 1952 brought televisions into the mix. Three generations later, Arch Hanley’s vision and commitment to customer service and quality continue at Acme TV, Acme Integration, the tin roof and concept :: home. 1727 East Sprague, Spokane.

Great news - Finders Keepers owner, Deena Caruso, recently branched out from her retail business, launching a new line of stylish headbands that are taking the international fashion scene by storm.
Each piece in the D. Caruso line is completely one-of-a-kind and includes stones and crystals hand-selected by Caruso from old vintage jewelry pieces at her retail businesses. Her new venture was recently written up in the popular, nationalInstyle Bride magazine, comparing her work to the industry leader, Jennifer Behr. Caruso’s headbands will also be featured in next month’s issues of Italian Vogue and will be seen in the coming months in as many as 20 major fashion magazines. The pieces are also getting recognition from the entertainment world. Miley Cyrus has purchased 5, and theAll My Children television show has ordered several for their characters. According to Instyle Bride, the line is quite affordable for custom work, with the most expensive headband priced at $400.
Caruso owns Finders Keepers at 112 S. Cedar Street, 509.838.4590; and Finders Keepers II, 18 W Main Avenue 509.624.1251.

Here’s a skin tip for all that humidity we’ve been experiencing lately!
To combat oil we recommend Repechage’s Hydra Refine Pore Perfecting Serum…it’s oil free, eliminates shine, oil and fights breakouts. Just really an all around miracle serum, but definitely ideal for the heat.
Another skin tip to keep in mind all year, but especially in the summer?! SPF!! Use sunscreen all over your body and use haircare products with SPF to protect your hair.
Thanks!

While I have ushered in the first few true summer days with a sunburn, I am way happy to be putting my layers and boots away for a few months. And I’m also eager to celebrate all things summer – including light, sunny colors!
Lodis’s Amalfi collection comes in very bright, seasonal shades, like greens and bubblegum pink – but I’m right now partial to the lemon.
Check out my favorite pieces (from left to right in photo):
Large ballet wallet ($115)
Large clutch wallet with gusset ($94)
Photo keychain ($14)
Zipper card case with key chain($34)
I’m all about the large wallet, simply because I stuff so much, well, stuff into mine! My own is chockful of coupons, credit cards, and gift cards there wouldn’t be room for cash – even if I had any!

It’s finally summer time! Which means you should relax in style. Luckily our warm weather recommendations are all you need to get you through the upcoming months in total comfort.
1. You need skirts. Try pairing our picks with a casual tee on the weekend, or a crisp button-down for the office. Check out Lake Shack Boutique in Liberty Lake or lolo’s in the SoDo District.
2. When it gets cooler in the country, try a pair of fresh-looking white jeans. Our recs are all on sale, so you won’t even mind getting them a little dirty. Cues is the best place to get fab white jeans.
3. Half the fun of spending time in the sun is getting to pick out a fun bathing suit. Try wearing a monokini in a fun print, which is this year’s newest swimwear trend. Great place to buy monokini’s for a steal -Target!
4. Beach time to pool time to party time shouldn’t call for three outfit changes. Get one cool cover-up, and you’ll be good to go. Again – Target!
5. In case a cover-up is too informal for any of your summer plans, try a safari dress. It’s one of our all-time favorite basics. Check out Zany Zebra or Bella Jezza in Sandpoint ID!

Take a look at Lady Gaga, Heidi Klum and Kate Hudson. Have you seen those long, straight bangs that touch just below the eyebrow? You’ve just been introduced to newest trends in fringe.
This summer long, straight fringe is hot. It combines sex appeal and fashion…definitely not a style for the faint of heart. If you need to update your look, go for fringe.
You might also pair your fringe with a long shag. Rather than opting for layers all around, try out shaggy layers along the face that begin at the eyes.
Try out fringe and shag and although it sounds a lot like 70’s décor, we ensure you these are some of the best style trends of 09’.

As summer rolls around, so do the invites to many a rooftop/beach/destination wedding. So be prepared with an outfit you can wear to any one of the random venues that will cordially request your presence.
A long dress is not something to shy away from as long as it’s a.) not white and b.) made of an appropriate material. Stick with one that’s lightweight enough for warmer weather, but not made of weekend-errand running cotton. Pair with neutral, strappy shoes, who’s color – or lack thereof – guarantees money well spent, as they can be worn with anything.
Skip the necklace and go for some colorful hanging earrings instead - they give off a more summery feel. Slip on a cuff for detail on the arm, and pack your bar money (never assume cocktails are free) in a

Shredded and Distressed denim is going to be a main staple of everyones fall wardrobe. It’s all about the Sophisticated Rockstar look and the ripped up and hand aged denim is the backbone of new laid back cool. Brands such as Current Elliot and JBrand are spearheading the distressed denim market.
Studs are Everywhere for fall; making a debut on handbags, jackets, shirts, and jeans. They are the ideal way to glamorously toughen up any look.
Feminine tops and dresses will be imperitive to every women’s fall wardrobe to offset tough rockstar items. LaRok has put out some great dusty pink and navy blue ruffled pieces that will be the perfect counterpart to a tough leather jacket.
The “Boyfriend” look. Every woman needs a pair of boyfriend jeans and a boyfriend blazer to go with them. They are a relaxed take on denim that needs to be paired with other structured, menswear inspired items. The Current Elliot boyfriend jean rage continues into fall tucked into a pair of boots and paired with a sharply tailored Elizabeth and James Black Blazer.
